Tradin Organic Hosts Factory Tour during World Cocoa Conference 2014

Tradin Organic Agriculture B.V. (“Tradin Organic”), headquartered in Amsterdam and part of the SunOpta International Sourcing & Supply segment, hosted a site visit at its cocoa processing facility attracting 44 international delegates of the World Cocoa Conference 2014. The company used the opportunity to discuss topics such as whole-bean roasting, certifications and its new organic chocolate drink with its guests from the international cocoa industry.

Rafal Taciak, Commercial Director Cocoa at Tradin Organic commented; “With the company’s history connected to the cocoa industry in the Netherlands and the new factory operational, it was a great opportunity to host delegates and offer insight into our processing operations after three days packed with theory and discussions at the conference.”

The international industry event with 800 delegates from across the world took place the previous week in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The event organiser ICCO integrated site visits to local cocoa businesses into the conference program to highlight the Dutch historic connection to cocoa and the cocoa expertise present in Amsterdam and the Zaanstad region.

The group of 44 conference delegates consisting of cocoa processors and buyers, chocolate manufacturers, researchers and cocoa farmers, joined the tour that combined the visits to Amsterdam based warehousing company Cotterell and Tradin Organic’s boutique processing facility Crown of Holland. The first stop was at Cotterell’s bagged cocoa warehouse at the edge of Amsterdam’s port. A coach then took participants to Agriport A7 in Middenmeer, 40km north of Amsterdam. Commercial Director of Cocoa at Tradin Organic Rafal Taciak used this trip to give a short introduction with facts on the sustainable business park. Upon arrival the group of visitors were able to inspect the facility and receive in-depth information on whole-bean roasting, the roasting method that next to its focus on organic and specialty cocoa beans, sets Crown of Holland apart from competitors. The tour was concluded with a tasting session for Crown of Holland’s new organic single-origin hot chocolate drink.

The organic cocoa factory Crown of Holland has been operational since November 2013 and is located 40km north of Amsterdam’s port, which is known as the world’s no. 1 cocoa port, in the sustainable business park Agriport A7. The plant has been built using the latest in environmentally friendly building materials and technologies. A vital element of Agriport A7’s concept is the use and encouragement of sustainable closed-loop systems of re-use of residuals and by-products amongst the companies, which aligns perfectly with Tradin Organic’s sustainability principles.
